Andrew Blau  
Co-head of the GBN practice with extensive experience in media and communications, information technology and networking, philanthropy, and public policy. Formerly a strategy consultant specializing in information technology and digital media, and a program director at two foundations, where he ran programs on technology policy. President of the board of WITNESS, an international human rights organization.



Derek Bothereau  
Practice associate. Performs research and analysis on consulting projects. Currently focused on long-term geopolitical issues. Previously worked as a policy analyst for the U.S. Senate. B.A. in political science and contemporary literature from U.C. Berkeley.

Stewart Brand  
Cofounder of GBN and the Long Now Foundation. Founder and editor of the Whole Earth Catalog and the Whole Earth Review; founder of The WELL computer teleconferencing system; author of The Clock of the Long Now, How Buildings Learn, and The Media Lab.

Tara Capsuto  
Practice associate. M.A. in comparative politics and markets from the London School of Economics; B.A in political science and Latin American political economy from U.C. Berkeley, where she also competed in varsity gymnastics and diving. Enjoys mountain biking, snowboarding, cooking, and traveling.

Lynn Carruthers  
Graphic recorder and visual tools designer. Cofounder and board member of the International Forum of Visual Practitioners; former assistant to GBN chairman Peter Schwartz, facility manager at Colossal Pictures, and NEA-funded art instructor for inner-city schools; avid gardener.

Bertram Chan  
Practice associate. Consulting experience in government, media, and transportation. Formerly a corporate finance analyst/associate with Credit Suisse First Boston, with experience in mergers and acquisitions, privatizations, and corporate restructurings. B.A. in political science, Yale University.



Kristin Cobble  
Practitioner, specializing in partnering with leaders to mobilize and transform individuals, teams, and organizations. As a designer of strategic change processes, she integrates results-oriented leadership team development with organizational design and strategy execution. Former director of strategic change for Banana Republic at Gap Inc. Author of articles on organizational learning, conflict, and coaching.


Jenny Collins  
Business manager, responsible for day-to-day operations and administration of GBN's business services and consulting practice, and member of GBN's management team. Genealogist and archivist; active in historic preservation and restoration projects.

Napier Collyns  
GBN cofounder. Former vice president with Royal Dutch/Shell, responsible for planning, public affairs, and human resources; senior member of Shell's original scenario planning team; over 30 years of experience in the international oil business.

Don Derosby  
Head of GBN's New York office. Specialist in system dynamics, with particular experience in the healthcare sector and commodity businesses; former strategy consultant and operations manager with Monitor Group.

Chris Ertel  
Co-head of practice and senior practitioner, focusing on the design and facilitation of customized learning experiences for long-term innovation strategy. Formerly a policy analyst and communications specialist to the Massachusetts State Senate and Council of State Governments, and writer and editor for Encyclopaedia Britannica; Ph.D. in demography, U.C. Berkeley.

Noah Flower  
Practice associate. Former website and virtual community designer; previously edited a student newspaper and developed e-learning software. Interests include foreign affairs, networked social interaction, film, snowboarding, and mountain biking; A.B. in philosophy from Dartmouth College.



Katherine Fulton  
Senior advisor to GBN; president, Monitor Institute; partner, Monitor Group. Leads scenario, strategy, and change projects in private, public, and nonprofit sectors; specializes in helping envision the use of private resources for public good, especially through philanthropy and media; former instructor, Duke University; founder of Carolina Independent Publications; Nieman fellow, Harvard University.

Practitioner, focused on developing tools for analyzing complex geopolitical security and intelligence issues. Previously led competitive strategy and product marketing teams for enterprise software companies. Ph.D. in intellectual history from U.C. Berkeley; author, Mandarins of the Future: Modernization Theory in Cold War America (Johns Hopkins, 2003).



Emma Ginger  
Office manager, Monitor/GBN San Francisco office. Proud mother of three children, and a spin instructor for the YMCA.

Jesse Goldhammer  
Practitioner and project manager of multi-year scenario projects on global geopolitical issues. Previously worked at Inktomi, Yahoo!, and Overture, specializing in search technology and paid search. Ph.D. in political science from U.C. Berkeley; author, The Headless Republic (2005).



Pepe Govender  
Regional IT controller for the Monitor Group, responsible for IT support, network infrastructure, and telecommunications for the West Coast and Asia. Previously based in South Africa, but also worked frequently in Asia, Europe, and the Eastern U.S.; interests include music and the theater.

Olaf Groth  
Senior practitioner, with expertise in international high-tech venture development, the cleantech/energy and ICT/communications domains, and business strategy issues that sit at the intersection of business, socioeconomic development, and national security. Ph.D. in international business relations from the Fletcher School at Tufts University.

Gerald Harris  
Senior consultant. Previously director of business planning for the engineering and construction division of Pacific Gas & Electric Company, and project finance analyst for Bechtel Engineers; specialist in energy market and technology development scenarios.

Editor, responsible for wordsmithing a range of GBN publications and pushing them from draft through production. Former copy chief at Marketspace, a Monitor company, and editor at MSN Sidewalk.com; freelance features writer; A.B in anthropology, Princeton University; master's degrees in anthropology and journalism.

Practice associate. Previously worked for the U.S. Department of State at the U.S. Embassy in Canberra, Australia, in both the political and public affairs divisions. B.A. in history from Stanford University. Enjoys running around scenic Lake Merritt and cheering for the Oakland A's.

Graphic designer. Formerly a marketing specialist for Bank of America and graphic designer for JAMS/Endispute; B.A. in information and communication studies from California State University, Chico.

Head of GBN's intelligence practice and senior practitioner, specializing in managing uncertainty, scenario thinking, and strategy. Co-author of recent publications on climate change, hydrogen fuel and tools for managing uncertainty; former senior research fellow at the Wharton School.



Matthew Ranen  
GBN practitioner. More than 11 years in new product development in the converging media, advertising, and technology sectors; formerly the director of product development at Premier Retail Networks; MBA from Northwestern's Kellogg School of Management and B.A. in applied math from Harvard University.

Peter Schwartz  
GBN chairman and cofounder. Previously headed scenario planning for Royal Dutch/Shell in London and directed the Strategic Environment Center at SRI International; author of Inevitable Surprises and The Art of the Long View; coauthor of The Long Boom and When Good Companies Do Bad Things.

Erik Smith  
Senior practitioner. Scenario planning experience in public health, energy, biotech, higher education, regional planning, and consumer markets. Ph.D. in demography and M.A. in anthropology from U.C. Berkeley; field research focused on social networks; surfs a longboard.

Teresa Smith  
Teresa is currently a project manager for one of GBN's large projects. Prior to joining GBN, Teresa worked in the banking industry for seven years as an assistant loan officer and office manager. She has a young son who keeps her very busy. In her spare time she enjoys reading and has been an avid softball player for many years.

Jonathan Star  
GBN practitioner, focusing on scenario planning, futures research, business strategy, and public policy. Responsible for GBN's training services. Former director of research at Scottish Enterprise.

Susan Stickley  
Senior practitioner, concentrating on merging strategic management and organizational learning techniques to achieve high impact transformational experiences for organizations. Ten years of experience at ARCO Chemical in corporate, business management, sales, and research; inventor.

Mark Tino  
Senior practitioner in Cambridge, MA. More than 25 years of experience in business and technology consulting in several industries including manufacturing, distribution, healthcare, publishing, and professional services. Previously held leadership positions at the Strategic Pricing Group, NerveWire, SRI Consulting, and Arthur Andersen. Engineering degree from Worcester Polytechnic Institute.



Nick Turner  
Senior practitioner and head of GBN in Europe, based in London. Formerly a managing director at Morgan Stanley and head of their European strategy and strategic marketing operations; has also held leadership positions at Xerox Corp., Ventura Software, and Visioneer Communications Inc. in Europe and Silicon Valley. Holds a BSc in management science from the University of Wales.

Whitney Wilson
